About the Event

The 1st Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Moot Court Competition is a flagship event organized by DBRANLU in collaboration with Chadha & Co., a distinguished law firm based in New Delhi. The competition will take place offline at DBRANLU’s campus on November 15-16, 2024. This event offers law students from across India a platform to showcase their legal research, reasoning, and advocacy skills.

The competition aims to test participants’ knowledge of the law, their ability to analyze complex legal issues, and their advocacy skills. Teams will be judged on their ability to present convincing arguments, handle rebuttals, and respond to questions from a panel of distinguished judges.

Prize Pool

The competition offers a prize pool of ₹1,75,000, distributed as follows:

  • Winner: ₹60,000 + Trophy + Certificate
  • First Runner-up: ₹50,000 + Trophy + Certificate
  • Third Best Team: ₹25,000 + Trophy + Certificate
  • Fourth Best Team: ₹15,000 + Trophy + Certificate
  • Best Memorial: ₹15,000 + Trophy + Certificate
  • Best Student Advocate: ₹10,000 + Trophy + Certificate

Event Schedule

  • Last Date for Final Registration: September 28, 2024
  • Draw of Lots (Online): October 7, 2024
  • Release of Moot Proposition Clarifications: October 7, 2024
  • Submission of Soft Copy of Memorials: October 18, 2024
  • Preliminary Rounds: November 15, 2024
  • Quarter-Final Rounds: November 15, 2024
  • Semi-Final and Final Rounds: November 16, 2024

Registration and Fees

  • Registration Fee: ₹1500 per team (non-refundable)
  • Additional Payment (for teams qualifying for oral rounds): ₹6000, including accommodation.

Upon successful registration, participants will receive an acknowledgment email. Teams must submit a scanned copy of the registration form, signed by the head of their institution, along with the payment receipt.


Eligibility and Team Composition

  • Open to students currently enrolled in 3-year or 5-year LL.B. programs at recognized law schools in India.
  • Each team must consist of two speakers and one researcher. Teams of two members are also allowed, with both acting as speakers.
  • Only one team is allowed per institution.

Memorial Submission Guidelines

  • Teams must submit memorials for both sides (Petitioner and Respondent) by October 18, 2024.
  • Memorials must adhere to the following formatting rules:
  • Font: Times New Roman, 12-point (main text), 10-point (footnotes)
  • Spacing: 1.5 line spacing (main text), single spacing (footnotes)
  • Margins: 1-inch margins on all sides
  • Citation: 20th Edition of the Bluebook citation method
  • Memorials must not exceed 40 pages, with a maximum of 25 pages for arguments.

Oral Rounds

The competition will consist of the following rounds:

  1. Preliminary Rounds: Each team will argue twice, once as Petitioner and once as Respondent.
  2. Quarter-Final Rounds: Top 8 teams will proceed based on cumulative scores.
  3. Semi-Final Rounds: Winners of the quarter-finals will advance.
  4. Final Rounds: The top two teams will compete for the title.

Teams will be judged based on their legal reasoning, use of precedents, court manner, and ability to respond to questions from the bench.
