About Uttar Pradesh State Institute of Forensic Science (UPSIFS)

The Uttar Pradesh State Institute of Forensic Science (UPSIFS), Lucknow, established by the Government of Uttar Pradesh, is a flagship institution under the National Forensic Science University, Gandhinagar. The institute offers world-class laboratory facilities and integrates legal studies with forensic training under its unique “LAW with LABS” initiative. It aims to blend the fields of law and science to foster practical understanding in areas like DNA analysis, ballistics, and cyber security.


About Sir B.N. Rau and the Competition

Sir Benegal Narsing Rau (1887–1958), an eminent jurist and constitutional expert, played a pivotal role in drafting India’s Constitution. This essay competition, commemorating his legacy, aims to inspire young legal and forensic minds to explore socio-legal issues and enhance their analytical, research, and writing skills.

Theme: “Harmonious Interplay of Fair Trial and Scientific Investigation: A Constitutional Odyssey”
Participants are invited to explore the growing relevance of forensic science in ensuring justice and propose innovative ideas for improving criminal justice administration in India.

Eligibility

Open to undergraduate and postgraduate students of law and forensic science enrolled in any recognized institution in India.


Prizes

  • 1st Prize: ₹10,000
  • 2nd Prize: ₹7,000
  • 3rd Prize: ₹5,000
  • Three Consolation Prizes: ₹2,500 each
    All participants will receive certificates of participation.

Essay Submission Guidelines

  • Word Limit: 2500–3000 words (excluding footnotes)
  • Formatting:
    • Font: Times New Roman, Size 14 (headings), 12 (body), 10 (footnotes)
    • Spacing: 1.5 (body), 1.0 (footnotes)
    • Citation Style: OSCOLA
    • Margins: 1 inch on all sides
  • Co-authorship is not allowed.
  • Plagiarism above 10% and the use of AI-generated content will result in disqualification.
