The event is scheduled to take place from 24th to 26th October 2024 and will be conducted in a hybrid format, offering both online and offline participation. Mooting, being a core activity that enhances the argumentative and research skills of law students, will be the focal point of this competition, which is set to attract teams from some of the top law schools across India.
The event provides a platform for budding legal professionals to demonstrate their advocacy skills in front of esteemed judges and legal luminaries. Formatting Guidelines for Memorials:
Participants are required to follow strict formatting and submission guidelines for memorials, which will form an integral part of the evaluation process.
- Font Style: Times New Roman
- Font Size: 12 for the body text, 10 for footnotes
- Line Spacing: 1.5 for the main text, single spacing for footnotes
- Margins: 1 inch on all sides
- Citation Style: Bluebook 21st Edition
- Page Limit: Memorials should not exceed 30 pages, inclusive of all content.
- Soft Copy Submission: Memorials must be submitted via email by 20th October 2024. The file must be in PDF format.
Memorials will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
- Legal Reasoning and Argumentation
- Use of Authority and Precedents
- Adherence to Formatting Guidelines
- Presentation of Facts
Location and Mode:
The preliminary rounds and quarter-final rounds of the competition will be conducted online, allowing teams from across India to participate from their respective institutions. The semi-finals and final rounds, however, will take place in-person at Xavier Law School, Kolkata, providing the finalists with an opportunity to argue before an esteemed panel of judges, including prominent legal professionals and academicians.
The offline rounds will be held at Xavier Law School’s state-of-the-art campus located in New Town, Kolkata. The university will provide necessary logistical support, including accommodation for the teams advancing to the offline rounds.

This competition is structured to provide participants with a real-world experience of courtroom practices, offering significant cash prizes and recognition for outstanding performances. Below are the categories of awards:
- Best Team: ₹50,000 + Trophy
- Runners-Up: ₹30,000 + Trophy
- Best Speaker: ₹10,000 + Certificate
- Best Memorial: ₹10,000 + Certificate
All participants will receive certificates of participation, and the finalists will receive trophies and certificates of merit. The event will also feature a Best Researcher award for exceptional legal research, contributing to the quality of the memorials submitted.
