About the Faculty of Law

The Faculty of Law at Oriental University is a premier institution offering undergraduate and postgraduate law courses such as BA.LL.B. About the Competition

The 2nd Dr. K. L. Thakral Memorial National Moot Court Competition, 2024, aims to provide law students across the country with a platform to enhance their advocacy skills, legal research, and argumentative abilities. The competition is organized with the knowledge partners Code F Solutions, Legal Specs, and Lawctopus as the media partner. Participants will navigate complex legal issues, conduct exhaustive research, and present their arguments before a panel of esteemed judges. The competition will take place in both online and on-campus formats.

  • Last Date for Registration: 28th October 2024
  • Memorial Submission Deadline: 6th November 2024
  • Researcher’s Test: 7th November 2024
  • Preliminary Rounds (Online): 8th November 2024
  • Quarterfinals, Semifinals & Final Rounds (On-Campus): 29th – 30th November 2024

Moot Problem

The moot problem is based on familial and social conflicts deeply rooted in Indian traditions. Participants will tackle a complex criminal case involving circumstantial evidence, legal culpability, and the sanctity of the family, raising broader questions about gender dynamics, societal expectations, and the pursuit of justice. The problem tests the analytical skills of participants and their ability to argue and defend their legal positions.

Eligibility

  • Open to undergraduate (3 years/5 years) and postgraduate law students.
  • Each institution can register only one team.
  • Teams can consist of 2 or 3 members: two speakers or two speakers and one researcher.

Format and Guidelines

  • Mode of Competition:
  • Preliminary Rounds: Online via Cisco WebEx
  • Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and Final Rounds: On-Campus at Oriental University, Indore
  • Team Composition:
  • Teams can comprise either 2 speakers or 2 speakers and 1 researcher.
  • Submission:
  • Team composition cannot change after memorial submission unless in case of medical emergencies or under organizer discretion.

  • Registration Fee: ₹3000 per team
  • Accommodation Charges: ₹4500 per team (for qualifying teams attending the on-campus rounds)
