The National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru, established in 1987, is India’s first National Law University and remains a pioneer in legal education. About the Opportunity

The 2nd NLS–SAM FinTech Moot Court Competition, 2025 will be held on 15–16 November 2025. After a successful inaugural edition in 2024, this year’s moot continues its tradition of tackling pressing legal challenges at the intersection of finance and technology. Last year’s participants engaged with novel issues around blockchain-enabled fractional ownership of real estate. This year’s moot proposition is expected to test participants on complex themes such as digital public infrastructure, artificial intelligence, cryptocurrency, and virtual reality regulation in fintech.

The competition aims to:

  • Encourage legal research in fintech law and regulation
  • Provide a forum for students to enhance advocacy and analytical skills
  • Offer participants real-world exposure to disputes arising in financial technology law
  • Build collaborative learning among India’s top law schools

The competition is judged by distinguished lawyers, academicians, and professionals from SAM and the fintech regulatory space, ensuring that participants gain feedback from some of the finest experts in the country. Format and Structure

  • Submission Type / Rounds: Memorial submission followed by oral rounds (preliminary and advanced)

Eligibility & Requirements

  • Open to all bona fide students enrolled in their 2nd year or above of an undergraduate law program, or any postgraduate program (including LL.M. and equivalent degrees).
  • Each recognised institution may send only one team.
  • Team Composition: As per Rulebook (usually 2 speakers + 1 researcher).
  • Required skills: Legal research, drafting, oral advocacy, and knowledge of fintech law.

1. Who can apply for this Call for Papers / Moot / ADR / Journal Opportunity?
Law students enrolled in their 2nd year or above of an undergraduate law program, or any postgraduate program (LL.M. or equivalent), are eligible.

2. Is there a fee for this moot competition?
Yes. A non-refundable provisional registration fee of INR 2,500 applies. Teams qualifying for oral rounds must pay an additional INR 7,500.

3. What is the last date to apply?
The last date for final registration is 19 September 2025.

4. What is the selection process?
Teams will first submit memorials. The top 24 teams from the memorial qualifier will advance to the oral rounds at NLSIU, Bengaluru.

5. Will participants receive certificates or recognition?
Yes, all participating teams will receive certificates. Awards will be given for winners, runners-up, best memorials, and individual advocacy.
