About the NLS BA (Hons.) Programme

The NLS BA (Hons.) Programme is a multi-disciplinary, three-year undergraduate degree that prepares students for diverse career opportunities in law, policy, business, media, academia, and more. Students will engage in rigorous foundational courses, specialized majors and minors, open electives, language studies, practice courses, and internships to develop critical thinking, research, and professional skills.

Key Features of the Programme

• Common Core Foundational Courses: All first-year students (both BA and BA LLB) will take shared foundational courses.
• Majors and Minors: Students can opt for a major-minor combination or a double major in the following disciplines:
  • History
  • Sociology & Anthropology
  • Economics
  • Politics
    (Future expansions will include Philosophy, Literature, Environmental Studies, and Data Analytics.)
• Open Electives: 36 credits worth of interdisciplinary courses across various subjects.
• Languages: Opportunity to study Indian languages as part of the curriculum.
• Practice Courses: Hands-on learning in AI & Machine Learning, Film-making, Business Consulting, Digital Journalism, Creative Writing, Policy Advocacy, and more.
• Internships: Mandatory one-month internship each year to gain real-world experience.
• Fourth-Year Option: High-performing students can opt for an additional year, leading to a BA (Hons. with Research) degree, with a 20,000-word dissertation and a teaching/research assistantship.
• Institutional Preference: Graduates will receive preference for admissions to NLSIU’s 3-Year LLB (Hons.) and MPP programmes (subject to meeting eligibility criteria).
