Government Law College (GLC), Mumbai, in association with Students for the Promotion of International Law (SPIL), Mumbai, presents the National Legal Article Writing Competition 2024 (NLAWC). Aimed at fostering legal scholarship on critical global issues, this year’s competition focuses on International Environmental Law. Participants from law schools across India are invited to delve into pressing environmental legal challenges and present their solutions.

Founded in 2009 by the students of GLC, SPIL, Mumbai is dedicated to promoting International Law. The organization has consistently provided a platform for law students to engage in global legal discourses through lectures, debates, and competitions. SPIL’s flagship event, the International Law Summit, attracts legal scholars and practitioners from around the world, solidifying its reputation in the international legal arena.
About the National Legal Article Writing Competition 2024
Theme: International Environmental Law
The environment is a critical issue in today’s global landscape, and International Environmental Law offers the legal mechanisms necessary to address it. This competition invites participants to analyze and propose solutions to global environmental challenges through the lens of international law.
Participants can select one of the following topics:
- Assessment of Environmental Impact through International Law: Evolving Standards and Practices for Global Conservation.
- Transboundary Environmental Harm: Legal Remedies and State Responsibility.
- Enforcement of International Environmental Law: Challenges and Measures.
- The Ethical and Moral Implications of Research Sponsored by Polluting Corporations.
- Environmental Refugees: Legal Recognition and Protection.
- Climate Change and Green Technology.
Eligibility
- The competition is open to law students enrolled in either a 3-year LL.B or a 5-year integrated LL.B program from any recognized institution in India.
- Participants can compete individually or in pairs (maximum two members).
- Previous winners are not eligible to participate.
Registration Process
Interested participants must complete the online registration form before the deadline. The registration fee is INR 150 for individual submissions and INR 250 for co-authored submissions.

Submission Guidelines
- Word Limit: 1500-2000 words (exclusive of footnotes and bibliography).
- Plagiarism: A maximum of 15% plagiarism is allowed (excluding footnotes). Entries exceeding this will be disqualified.
- Format: Submissions must be in .doc/.docx or .pdf format and include an abstract of up to 250 words.
- Footnotes: Must follow the Harvard Bluebook (20th edition).
