About the Role: Associate (Public Policy)
We are seeking a talented and motivated Associate to join our Public Policy team in New Delhi. The position is tailored for individuals with 2-3 years of professional experience in public policy, legal advocacy, or government relations, and who are eager to make a difference in the public policy landscape. As an Associate, you will work at the intersection of law, policy, and regulation, playing a key role in managing critical projects related to policy analysis, client engagement, and government advocacy. The position offers significant exposure to the Indian legal system, government policymaking, and client advisory services.
This role is ideal for professionals passionate about policy reform and keen to engage in regulatory challenges that affect various industries. You will collaborate with senior advocates and policy analysts to draft policy briefs, prepare legal reports, and engage with government stakeholders to advocate for impactful reforms. This position also involves extensive travel across India, where you will represent the firm at policy forums, government meetings, and client consultations.
Key Responsibilities
- Policy Analysis & Advocacy:
- Monitor and analyze new developments in public policy, legislation, and regulatory frameworks affecting various sectors.
- Interact with ministries, regulatory bodies, and government agencies to advocate for client interests and policy reforms.
- Draft and submit policy briefs, position papers, and consultation responses on behalf of clients, focusing on shaping and influencing public policy.
- Prepare presentations and policy documents to support client advocacy efforts, ensuring that all materials are well-researched and persuasive.
- Client Engagement:
- Work closely with clients to understand their regulatory challenges and provide strategic advice to help navigate policy changes.
- Lead client meetings, update them on policy developments, and ensure clear communication regarding the progress of advocacy initiatives.
- Draft, review, and finalize advocacy materials such as policy memos, letters to policymakers, and briefing notes that reflect the client’s interests.
- Research & Documentation:
- Conduct in-depth research on policy issues, legal precedents, and legislative frameworks to ensure that the firm remains informed on all relevant developments.
- Stay updated on emerging trends, new court rulings, and government regulations that may impact sectors like technology, energy, and infrastructure.
- Draft clear and concise reports, articles, and thought leadership pieces for internal and external stakeholders.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Procure and manage meetings with relevant government stakeholders as part of the firm’s strategic advocacy efforts.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with policymakers, government officials, industry associations, and civil society organizations to advocate for policy reform.
- Represent the firm at public consultations, industry conferences, and government hearings, advocating for client positions and advancing policy discussions.
- Team Leadership:
- Supervise and mentor junior associates, interns, and researchers, ensuring that their work aligns with the firm’s high standards of research and advocacy.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on diverse projects, ensuring that all deliverables meet the firm’s policy objectives.
- Travel:
- The position involves frequent travel across India, as you will be representing the firm in policy discussions, client meetings, and government engagements.
Qualifications & Experience Required
- Education:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Law from a reputed Indian university is required, with a preference for candidates from National Law Universities (NLUs).
- A solid understanding of legislative processes at the national, state, and local levels.
- Experience:
- At least 2-3 years of experience in public policy, legal advocacy, or government relations, preferably with experience in policy analysis, government think tanks, or advocacy organizations.
- Experience with government relations and policy development will be highly regarded.
- Skills:
- Exceptional research and analytical skills, with the ability to conduct thorough legal and policy research.
- Excellent communication skills in both written and verbal formats, with a proven ability to draft clear, concise, and persuasive documents.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with advocacy tools or legislative tracking platforms is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Other:
- Willingness to travel extensively across India for meetings, policy forums, and consultations.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively as part of a team.
- A demonstrated interest in public policy, with a commitment to advancing policy reforms that align with client interests and broader legal standards.
Work Environment
- The position is full-time and based in New Delhi.
- Extensive travel will be required to attend policy forums, government meetings, and represent clients across various locations in India.
- Occasional long hours or weekend work may be required to meet critical deadlines and project timelines.
