About the University/Organization
This conference is jointly organized by the Indian Journal of Constitutional Law (IJCL) in collaboration with the NALSAR Centre for Constitutional Law, Public Policy and Good Governance, and the Access to Justice Program at NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad.
NALSAR is widely recognized as one of India’s premier law schools, known for cutting-edge research in constitutional jurisprudence, public policy, and rights-based governance. The Indian Journal of Constitutional Law, a peer-reviewed publication, brings academic rigor to evolving constitutional dialogues and plays a key role in shaping public discourse on civil liberties and human rights.
About the Event
The ‘Dignity Law: Practice and Promise’ Conference marks the first edition of what promises to be a landmark annual event focused on dignity as a constitutional principle, legal doctrine, and normative ethic.
This two-day offline conference will be hosted at the NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, and seeks to foster interdisciplinary conversations among legal academics, policy professionals, practitioners, researchers, and students.
Dignity is often mentioned in constitutional texts as an aspirational goal, but its functional role as a doctrinal tool and interpretive lens in Indian constitutionalism is evolving and complex. This conference will attempt to interrogate how dignity operates as:
- A source of legal reasoning
- A principle of adjudication
- A normative commitment to equality, autonomy, and justice
- A pedagogical tool in legal education
