About the Centre for Labour Laws (CLL)

The Centre for Labour Laws (CLL) at the National Law Institute University (NLIU) was established in 2019 to promote labor rights and awareness through comprehensive research, training, and advocacy. The center conducts studies on policy, legal, and regulatory issues surrounding labor and employment laws in India. Through its activities, the CLL seeks to foster a fair and equitable environment for workers across the country.


About NLIU-JLEL

The NLIU Journal for Labour and Employment Laws (NLIU-JLEL) is an annual, peer-reviewed publication aimed at fostering debate and discourse on labor and employment laws. The journal covers a wide range of topics pertinent to the evolving dynamics of workplace regulations and human resources, contributing to a fair and equitable legal regime.


Theme and Sub-Themes

Theme: The Intersection of Gig Work and Social Security: Challenges and Solutions in New Labour Codes

As gig work continues to grow, this theme addresses the challenges gig workers face, especially regarding access to social security, healthcare, and other protections under India’s new labor codes. Submissions may cover (but are not limited to) the following areas:

  • Insolvency and Gig Workers’ Rights
  • Arbitration and Dispute Resolution in the Gig Economy
  • Legal Status of Gig Workers under New Labor Codes
  • Social Security for Gig and Platform Workers
  • Technological Impact on Labor Rights
  • Global Comparisons of Gig Economy Regulations
  • Trade Union Roles and Collective Bargaining for Gig Workers
  • Judicial Approaches to Gig Work and Labor Rights

Categories of Submissions

  1. Articles (4,000 to 10,000 words): In-depth analyses with references to varied sources, including practical recommendations.
  2. Essays and Short Articles (2,000 to 4,000 words): Analytical works with recommendations.
  3. Case Comments (2,500 to 5,000 words): Critical analysis of recent judgments and their legal implications.
  4. Book Reviews (1,500 to 3,000 words): Concise review of recently published works in the field.
  5. Legislative Comments (2,000 to 4,000 words): Examination of recent legislative developments, focusing on their potential impact.

Submission Guidelines

  • Abstract: Each submission must include a 300-word abstract detailing the novelty, contribution, and utility of the paper. Include 3-5 keywords.
  • Formatting: Submissions should be in MS Word (.doc/.docx), Times New Roman font, size 12 (1.5 line spacing for the body and 10-point font for footnotes).
  • Citation: Use OSCOLA (4th Edition) for footnotes. Endnotes are not allowed.
  • Co-Authorship: Allowed for up to 2 authors in Articles and Essays only. Case Comments, Book Reviews, and Legislative Comments must be solo-authored.
  • Exclusivity: Submissions must be unpublished and not under consideration elsewhere.
  • Anonymity: Manuscripts must not reveal the author’s identity to ensure a blind review process.
