The competition aims to highlight the global nature of ADR and arbitration and encourage students to articulate nuanced perspectives on challenges and innovations within the realm.

Themes for the Competition

  1. The Recording of Evidence: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of Oral Testimony in International Commercial Arbitration: This theme explores the complexities of oral testimony in arbitration, including witness statements, cross-examination, and credibility assessment in a multicultural, cross-border setting.
  2. The Race for a Primary Institution for Arbitration in India: What Makes a Global Arbitration Hub?: Participants are encouraged to explore India\’s progress in establishing itself as a global arbitration hub and propose strategies to enhance its competitiveness on the global stage.
  3. Technology in Arbitration: Defining the Limits of AI Inclusion in International Commercial Arbitration: This theme examines the integration of AI in arbitration, exploring its benefits, challenges, and ethical implications.
  4. Mediation 2024: The Rise of Commercial Mediation in India: This theme discusses the increasing popularity of commercial mediation in India, legislative reforms, institutional developments, and the evolving role of stakeholders in fostering a mediation culture.
  5. Public Policy, Arbitrator Bias, and Beyond: Impediments to Enforcement of Awards in India: Participants are invited to explore the barriers to enforcement of arbitral awards in India, including public policy considerations, arbitrator bias, and procedural irregularities.
  6. An International Arbitration Act or a Specific Arbitration Bench: The Route Towards an Arbitration-Friendly India: This theme delves into the merits and challenges of adopting a dedicated International Arbitration Act or establishing a specialized arbitration bench in India.

Awards and Recognition

The top three entries will be published in the TCCLR Blog and awarded internship opportunities at the Centre for the Online Resolution of Disputes (CORD). Additionally, cash prizes and certificates of merit will be awarded to the winners and honorable mentions.

  • Winners: Cash Prize of Rs. 7,000 and internships at CORD
  • Second Prize: Cash Prize of Rs. 5,000 and internships at CORD
  • Third Prize: Cash Prize of Rs. 3,000 and internships at CORD
  • Honorable Mentions: Certificate of Merit

Submission Guidelines

Participants must comply with the following guidelines:

  • Word Limit: 1200-1500 words
  • Formatting: Times New Roman, font size 12, line spacing 1.5, justified alignment
  • Sources: Must be hyperlinked; footnotes and endnotes are prohibited
  • Submission Link: Submission Form

Eligibility and Registration Fee

  • Eligibility: Full-time 3-year LLB or 5-year LLB integrated program students, or those pursuing an LLM degree or equivalent
  • Registration Fee: Rs. 100-300 depending on the institution and authorship
