About the Course

NLSIU, in collaboration with Harvard Law School, is offering ‘CopyrightX: NLSIU’ in the upcoming trimester. This eight-week comparative copyright law course will run from March 3, 2025, to April 30, 2025. The program, affiliated with the renowned CopyrightX initiative led by Prof. William Fisher and Prof. Ruth Okediji at Harvard Law School, is open to students and professionals from across South Asia.

The course delves into the complexities of copyright law and its implications across various sectors such as art, entertainment, and technology. A key focus this year will be on AI’s influence on copyright law and ongoing litigations globally, providing participants with an in-depth comparative analysis of US and Indian copyright laws.

Format/Structure

The course employs a hybrid format with three two-hour sessions per week. NLSIU students will attend in person on campus, while external participants will join online. The program integrates recorded lectures from Harvard Law School professors with interactive live discussions led by Prof. Arul George Scaria (NLSIU), supplemented by guest lectures from industry experts and artists.

A minimum of 80% attendance is mandatory to qualify for the final examination, which will be conducted primarily by Harvard Law School. Successful candidates will receive a certificate from Harvard Law School.

Additional Details

Eligibility extends to professionals and students enrolled in undergraduate, postgraduate, or doctoral programs in South Asia. Applications are encouraged from judges, legal practitioners, artists, data scientists, and software developers interested in copyright law.

A competitive selection process considers applicants’ CVs, motivation letters, and academic/professional backgrounds. Selected candidates will engage in rigorous coursework and assignments, ensuring comprehensive learning.

The enrolment fee is INR 50,000 plus applicable taxes. However, students enrolled in full-time academic courses at public-funded universities in South Asia are eligible for a full fee waiver. This waiver does not apply to employed candidates.
