About the Position

Medanta is looking to hire a Deputy General Manager (DGM) – Corporate Law for its Legal Department. The ideal candidate should be a seasoned professional with expertise in corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and intellectual property rights. The role requires the individual to bring strategic insight coupled with hands-on experience in managing complex legal functions, including drafting, due diligence, contract negotiation, and intellectual property management.

This position will play a key role in supporting Medanta’s legal team in expanding operations across new geographic regions and identifying growth avenues within the healthcare ecosystem, including academics and healthcare partnerships.

Key Responsibilities

As the DGM – Corporate Law (Legal), you will be responsible for:

  • Due Diligence: Conducting comprehensive legal due diligence for acquiring companies or properties as part of Medanta’s expansion plans.
  • Drafting Agreements: Preparing, drafting, and reviewing a variety of legal documents including collaboration agreements, joint venture agreements, loan agreements, joint development agreements, long-term lease deeds, and other commercial contracts. This includes non-disclosure agreements, MOUs, and more.
  • Contract Management: Negotiating, drafting, and managing contracts related to financial, commercial, HR, information technology, and other corporate functions.
  • Intellectual Property Rights: Protecting Medanta’s intellectual property by registering IP assets and ensuring compliance with intellectual property laws.
  • Legal Research & Opinions: Conducting thorough legal research on complex business, commercial, and contractual issues. Offering legal opinions to support the business’s objectives and decision-making.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Legal Drafting & Negotiation: Strong drafting, negotiation, and review skills, especially in complex commercial transactions, mergers, and acquisitions.
  • Intellectual Property: A good understanding of IP management and registration processes.

Qualification & Experience

  • LL.B. from a reputed law school.
  • 12-13 years of experience in corporate law, including expertise in acquisitions, mergers, joint ventures, and other large-scale corporate transactions.
  • Law Firm Experience: At least 4-6 years of recent experience in a leading law firm is mandatory.
  • Experience in managing cross-functional legal teams and collaborating with external legal advisors.
