About the Event

The Cross Examination Moot is an international arbitration moot competition focused specifically on developing the art of cross-examination in international legal disputes. Participants engage in a simulation of a commercial arbitration involving complex issues of fact, where they must prepare witness statements, examine witnesses, and argue their case before expert tribunals.

The 2025 edition brings a thrilling case involving the termination of strategic battery production contracts between private and state-owned enterprises. Issues include misrepresentations during contract negotiations, disputes over raw material pricing, and regulatory hurdles concerning permits and compliance — providing a realistic context for testing advocacy and analytical skills.

This moot is ideal for law students aspiring to careers in international arbitration, litigation, or corporate law.

Format and Structure

The event is structured in several stages:

• Case Problem Release
• Written Submissions (Memorials)
• Oral Rounds (Preliminary & Finals) in Paris

Participants must submit a memorial and then appear for live cross-examinations, where teams will question witnesses and argue factual and legal issues before a tribunal of experts. Evaluation criteria include clarity of legal argument, advocacy, witness handling, factual understanding, and overall legal strategy.
