About the Event:

The DNLU National Moot Court Competition 2024 is an esteemed event that draws law students from across India to engage in high-level legal debates and develop advocacy skills in a competitive yet intellectually stimulating environment. This moot court competition aims to simulate real-life courtroom procedures, offering participants a platform to argue both sides of a legal case. Teams will prepare written submissions (memorials) for both the appellant and respondent, followed by oral arguments.

The competition is designed to help students improve their legal reasoning, research, and writing skills while fostering teamwork, time management, and effective communication. Participants will be judged by a distinguished panel comprising legal practitioners, academics, and experts from the legal industry. The feedback provided by these professionals will not only help students refine their arguments but also provide valuable insights into legal practices and courtroom dynamics.

Apart from honing their legal skills, students will also get an opportunity to network with peers and professionals from the legal field, making this event an excellent platform for personal and professional growth.

Formatting Guidelines for Memorial Submission:

  • Font: Times New Roman
  • Font Size: 12 points for the main body, 10 points for footnotes
  • Line Spacing: 1.5 for the main text, 1.0 for footnotes
  • Margins: 1-inch margins on all sides
  • Citation Style: Bluebook (20th Edition)
  • Memorial Cover: Blue for the appellant, red for the respondent
  • Team Code: Mentioned on the top-right corner of the cover page (A for Appellant, R for Respondent, followed by the team code number)
  • Deadline: Soft copies must be submitted by 28 October 2024 at 11:00 PM IST, and hard copies (4 copies each for appellant and respondent) must be submitted by 15 November 2024.

Non-compliance with these formatting guidelines may result in penalties, and late submissions will attract a deduction of marks. Plagiarism will lead to disqualification.

Registration Details:

  • The registration process for Round-I (Memorial Qualification Round) begins on 4 October 2024 and closes on 15 October 2024. Teams must provisionally register through their moot court societies by completing the online registration form available here.

    • Round-I: ₹1,000
    • Round-II (for teams qualifying for physical rounds): ₹5,000 (inclusive of accommodation and meals)

Additional Details:

  • The competition consists of multiple rounds: Memorial Qualification Round (Round-I), followed by physical rounds (Round-II), which include preliminary rounds, semi-finals, and finals.

  • The semi-final and final rounds will be knockout rounds, with the winning team decided by the aggregate speaker score.
