Ensuring Dignity at Work: Report Sexual Harassment via SHe-Box (Government of India Initiative)

Recognizing this, the Government of India (GoI) has taken a critical step towards addressing workplace harassment through the Sexual Harassment electronic Box (SHe-Box)—an initiative that ensures confidential, accessible, and responsive complaint redressal for women across all employment sectors.


What is SHe-Box?

SHe-Box (Sexual Harassment electronic Box) is an online complaint management system developed by the Ministry of Women and Child Development (WCD). It is a single-window portal for all women, regardless of employment status or sector—organized or unorganized, private or public. Whether you are a government employee, a private sector worker, or part of the informal economy, SHe-Box empowers you to report sexual harassment at the workplace directly to the concerned authority.

Key Features of SHe-Box

  • Universal Access: Open to all working women, including contract workers, domestic workers, interns, volunteers, and trainees.
  • Confidential and Secure: The platform guarantees the confidentiality of the complainant.
  • Direct Escalation: Once submitted, the complaint is automatically forwarded to the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) or Local Complaints Committee (LCC) with jurisdiction to take action.
  • Government-backed Redressal: Monitored by the Department of Legal Affairs, ensuring institutional support for every woman who seeks justice.

The portal functions under the umbrella of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, commonly known as the POSH Act. This law:

  • Defines sexual harassment comprehensively, including verbal, physical, written, visual, or implied conduct.
  • Covers all workplaces: organized, unorganized, private, public, and even domestic spaces.
  • Requires employers to establish Internal Complaints Committees (ICCs) and follow due process in handling complaints.

The POSH Act stands out for its inclusive approach and wide applicability, ensuring no woman is left out of the protections afforded by law.


How to Register a Complaint

To register a complaint on SHe-Box:

  1. Visit https://shebox.wcd.gov.in
  2. Click on “Register Your Complaint”
  3. Provide a valid email ID and mobile number
  4. Submit the details with any relevant documentation

Once submitted, the complaint is tracked through a unique complaint ID, allowing the user to follow the progress and outcomes.


SHe-Box isn’t just a complaint portal—it’s also an educational hub. The platform includes:

  • POSH Act and Rules (in Hindi and English)
  • Training modules for government and private sectors
  • DoPT advisories, handbooks, and compliance guidelines
  • Informational videos to spread awareness

These resources are freely available for download and can be used by organizations to train ICC members, build internal policies, and foster a culture of zero tolerance.
