About the University/Organization

The National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru is India’s premier legal education institution. Since 1997, NLSIU has hosted the H.M. Seervai Essay Competition, in memory of eminent jurist Hormasji Maneckji Seervai, celebrating original thought and academic excellence in Indian Constitutional Law.

About the Event

Now in its 28ᵗʰ edition, the competition invites entries on an issue of significant constitutional relevance:
“How should Indian Election Law be amended to strengthen Indian constitutional democracy?”

Instituted by Senior Advocate Navroz Seervai, this essay competition is among the most prestigious for law students across India. The winner will be awarded the H.M. Seervai Gold Medal and their essay will be published in the National Law School Journal.

The last gold medal was awarded to Abhinav Ravi (NLU Delhi) for his essay “The Indian Fourth Branch: Developing A New Institutional Morality.”

• Word Limit: 7,000 – 10,000 (including footnotes)

• Authorship: Single-author essays only
• Formatting: Times New Roman, size 12, double-spaced, A4
• Plagiarism Check: Mandatory, with a bonafide certificate signed by Registrar / VC / Competent Authority
