One such endeavor is the GNLU Centre for Research in Criminal Justice Sciences (GCRCJS), which focuses on advancing the study and practice of criminal law in India. GCRCJS organizes seminars, workshops, and competitions like this essay writing contest to engage young legal minds with key issues in criminal justice.
About the Event:
The 2nd GCRCJS Criminal Law Essay Writing Competition aims to encourage law students and scholars to critically examine India’s criminal justice system. This year’s theme, “Evaluating the Shifting Features of India’s Criminal Justice System After 78 Years of Independence,” invites participants to explore the transformation of criminal law and justice in post-independence India. Participants may choose from a range of sub-themes, including:
- The rise of white-collar crime in India
- The role of special investigative agencies in maintaining law and order
- The evolution and challenges of state policing
This is an excellent opportunity for students to share their ideas, enhance their legal writing skills, and contribute to the ongoing dialogue on criminal justice in India.
Who Can Participate:
The competition is open to students from the following academic backgrounds:
- Law (both undergraduate and postgraduate levels)
- Criminology
- Public Administration
- Sociology
- Other related disciplines
Participants may choose to submit their essays individually or as part of a team, with a maximum of two co-authors per submission.
Essay Submission Guidelines:
To ensure your essay stands out, please follow these guidelines carefully:
- Word Limit: 1500-2000 words (excluding footnotes)
- Font: Times New Roman (12-point for the body, 10-point for footnotes)
- Citation Style: OSCOLA (Oxford University Standard for the Citation of Legal Authorities)
- Plagiarism: Submissions must adhere to the UGC’s 10% plagiarism limit.
Essays must be original, well-researched, and relevant to the theme. The submission deadline for essays is 25th September 2024, so be sure to submit your work on time.
Prizes:
Participants will be competing for the following awards:
- 1st Prize: ₹5,000 + Certificate of Merit
- 2nd Prize: ₹3,000 + Certificate of Merit
- 3rd Prize: ₹2,000 + Certificate of Merit
In addition to these prizes, all participants will receive a Certificate of Participation, and the top three essays will be published on the GCRCJS Crime & Justice Blog, offering a chance for nationwide recognition.
