Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) is hosting the 2nd edition of the GCRCJS Criminal Law Essay Writing Competition. This is your chance to delve into the pressing challenges and innovations in India’s criminal justice system and have your work recognized at a national level. With total prizes worth ₹10,000, this competition offers a platform for aspiring legal scholars to make their mark.
Gujarat National Law University (GNLU), located in Gandhinagar, is one of India’s premier institutions for legal education. Established by the Government of Gujarat and recognized by the Bar Council of India and the University Grants Commission (UGC), GNLU is renowned for its world-class academic programs in law, including integrated undergraduate degrees, postgraduate LL.M. courses, and Ph.D. programs.
GNLU is committed to fostering academic excellence and promoting legal research across a variety of fields. One such endeavor is the GNLU Centre for Research in Criminal Justice Sciences (GCRCJS), which focuses on advancing the study and practice of criminal law in India. GCRCJS organizes seminars, workshops, and competitions like this essay writing contest to engage young legal minds with key issues in criminal justice.
The 2nd GCRCJS Criminal Law Essay Writing Competition aims to encourage law students and scholars to critically examine India’s criminal justice system. This year’s theme, “Evaluating the Shifting Features of India’s Criminal Justice System After 78 Years of Independence,” invites participants to explore the transformation of criminal law and justice in post-independence India. Participants may choose from a range of sub-themes, including:
This is an excellent opportunity for students to share their ideas, enhance their legal writing skills, and contribute to the ongoing dialogue on criminal justice in India.
The competition is open to students from the following academic backgrounds:
Participants may choose to submit their essays individually or as part of a team, with a maximum of two co-authors per submission.

Essays must be original, well-researched, and relevant to the theme. The submission deadline for essays is 25th September 2024, so be sure to submit your work on time.

In addition to these prizes, all participants will receive a Certificate of Participation, and the top three essays will be published on the GCRCJS Crime & Justice Blog, offering a chance for nationwide recognition.
