About Law Council of Australia

About the Event

The International Law Section (ILS) 2024 Essay Competition invites submissions on the topic: “An International Issue of Significance which has Legal Ramifications for the Pacific.” The competition aims to encourage scholarly exploration of key legal issues affecting the South Pacific region. Candidates may submit either previously published work (up to 5,000 words) or original work (up to 3,000 words). The winning essay will be published on the Law Council of Australia website and the author will receive a cash prize of AUD $500.00.

The competition is an opportunity for students and professionals to engage with important international legal challenges, contribute to the legal community, and showcase their research and writing skills.

  • Submissions must explore an international legal issue with significance to the South Pacific region.

Formatting and Submission Guidelines

• Essay Length:
  • Previously published work: Maximum of 5,000 words
  • Original work: Maximum of 3,000 words
• Submission Format: Essays should be submitted via email to ben.roberton@lawcouncil.au no later than COB on 31 October 2024.
• Candidates must authorize their essay for publication on the Law Council website.
• Essays should demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the international legal issue being addressed and its implications for the South Pacific.

Prize and Recognition

• Prize: The winner of the competition will receive a cash prize of AUD $500.
• The winning essay will be published on the Law Council of Australia website, giving the author visibility within the international legal community.
