About the University/Organization

Deel is a global HR and payroll platform that enables organizations to hire, pay, and manage remote workers in over 150 countries. In collaboration with the Conflict Analytics Lab at Queen’s University, Deel is opening applications for its Legal & Policy Research Internship. This joint initiative aims to explore the intersection of labor law, digital regulation, and artificial intelligence in legal processes.


About the Event

This internship provides an immersive opportunity for law students and graduates to explore cutting-edge issues in international employment policy, worker classification, and digital compliance frameworks. Interns will be involved in AI-driven research and the development of practical legal tools used by Deel’s internal and external stakeholders.

The internship is ideal for students interested in legal-tech, comparative labor law, and public policy frameworks on global employment rights.

Format and Structure

The internship is fully remote and structured over a 4–5 week period with an expected time commitment of 160–200 hours.

Structure includes:

  • Virtual onboarding and orientation
  • Weekly mentorship with Deel and Queen’s University faculty
  • Research assignments focusing on labor regulation, collective bargaining, healthcare law, remote worker rights, etc.
  • Drafting legal memos, annotating case law, and policy writing
  • Final presentation and peer review

Evaluation will be based on:

  • Legal insight and jurisdictional understanding
  • Policy drafting and clarity
  • Research quality and adherence to deadlines

Eligibility

  • Law students (final year) or recent law graduates (within 1 year)
  • Excellent written English; local legal language (e.g., Arabic, Yoruba, etc.) is a plus
  • Familiarity with employment or labor law frameworks
  • Experience in legal research and policy drafting
  • Candidates from Nigeria and Egypt especially encouraged to apply

Q4: Is there a registration fee?
A: No. This internship is completely free.

A: Yes. Students with jurisdictional knowledge of Nigeria or Egypt will be given preference.
