About the Organization
The Singapore Legal Service (SLS) is a branch of the public service dedicated to upholding the rule of law and shaping legal policy across various arms of government. SLS officers serve in key legal institutions, including the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC), Ministry of Law, Legal Aid Bureau, Insolvency Office, and other statutory boards and ministries.
About the Internship
The Legal Internship Programme (Nov 2025 – Feb 2026) provides law students with practical exposure to the diverse legal work carried out across Singapore’s public sector. Interns are placed in different agencies to work alongside Legal Service Officers, gaining insights into areas such as criminal prosecution, civil litigation, legislative drafting, and legal policy work.
Internships are aligned with university vacation schedules and are compensated through a monthly allowance, prorated to actual working days.

Format and Structure
- Internships are full-time, typically spanning 4 to 12 weeks, depending on availability
- Interns will be posted to one or more legal divisions, including AGC departments, Legal Aid Bureau, MinLaw, and other statutory boards
- Interns are expected to perform legal research, draft documents, assist in case reviews, and attend hearings/meetings
- Mentoring and feedback are integral to the structure
Location and Mode
Location: Singapore (On-site at assigned government agency)
Mode: In-office, physical presence required
Stipend: Monthly allowance, pro-rated by actual working days

Eligibility
Open to:
- LLB or JD students enrolled in a recognised university under the Legal Profession (Qualified Persons) Rules
- Both local and overseas institutions recognised by Singapore authorities

Registration Fee
None. Application is free of charge.
Team/Individual
Interns will work individually or as part of small legal teams, directly reporting to Legal Service Officers within their assigned departments.
FAQs
Q1: Do I need to be a Singapore citizen?
A: No, citizenship is not required, but you must be enrolled in a recognised law degree programme (as per the Qualified Persons Rules).
Q2: Can I choose where I’ll be posted?
A: Preferences may be indicated, but final placement is at the discretion of the Legal Service Commission based on availability and suitability.
Q3: Will I receive a certificate?
A: Yes, a Certificate of Completion is issued to successful interns.
Q4: Can I do the internship during December only?
A: Yes, internship timings are flexible within the Nov–Feb window, depending on your academic calendar.
