About the Opportunity

Brakes India is inviting applications for the role of Legal Officer to be based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. This is an exciting opportunity for experienced legal professionals to be part of a dynamic corporate legal team handling diverse legal matters across multiple domains.

Key Responsibilities

• Drafting and vetting commercial contracts, including Sourcing Agreements, Supply Agreements, Lease Agreements, Power Purchase Agreements, Service Agreements, Distribution Agreements, and Customer Contracts.
• Handling general litigation, legal notices, claims, and regulatory compliance.
• Advising on Competition Laws, Legal Metrology, BIS, Information Technology Laws, Data Protection Laws, and Software Licensing.
• Assisting in Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A), including legal due diligence, drafting, and negotiation of term sheets, SHAs, SPAs, and purchase agreements.
• Managing the company’s IPR portfolio, including patent filings, technology licensing, and trademark agreements.
• Providing legal support to corporate finance, marketing & sales, HR, IT, and strategy teams.
• Engaging with external law firms and legal practitioners for legal support.

Eligibility Criteria

• Educational Qualification: Full-time LLB from a reputed institution.
• Experience: 3-8 years of legal experience, preferably in-house within the automotive, manufacturing, or power sector.
• Key Competencies: Proficiency in contract drafting, legal compliance, stakeholder management, and negotiation. Strong business acumen and digital proficiency are essential.
• Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

The Legal Officer will collaborate with multiple internal teams:

• Manufacturing Units: Handling land matters, regulatory compliance, and litigation.
• Business Units: Advising on commercial contracts and legal strategy.
• Corporate Finance: Supporting corporate and strategic legal matters.
• Marketing & Sales: Managing distribution, customer contracts, and branding compliance.
• Strategy Team: Assisting with M&A transactions.
• HR & IT Departments: Handling employment contracts, software licensing, and data protection laws.
