About the University/Organization

Chanakya National Law University (CNLU), Patna, established under Bihar Act No. 24 of 2006 by the Government of Bihar, is a distinguished national law university recognized under Sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956. Approved by the Bar Council of India and accredited by NAAC, the University is known for its academic rigour, research-driven environment, and commitment to developing future leaders in law.

The Centre for Law and Economics (CLE) at CNLU is a dedicated research centre committed to promoting interdisciplinary dialogue between the domains of law and economics. CLE aims to foster awareness, encourage rigorous scholarship, and provide a platform for students, academicians, and professionals to explore the economic implications of legal frameworks and policy decisions.


About the Event

The 2nd CLE-CNLU National Essay Writing Competition 2025 is designed to provide a national platform for law and economics enthusiasts to express their thoughts, conduct high-quality research, and contribute meaningfully to the emerging field of economic analysis of law.

The theme—“Tariffs, Retaliation, and Rule of Law: Rethinking Trade Conflicts Economically”—is highly relevant in today’s global economic environment, particularly in light of the escalating tariff wars affecting global trade.

This competition is ideal for law students, economics scholars, and policy enthusiasts who aim to hone their research and writing skills while making an academic contribution to an interdisciplinary field.

Format and Structure

  • The essay must be written in English.
  • Co-authorship is allowed up to 2 authors.
  • Word Limit: 3,500–5,000 words (excluding footnotes).
  • Format: MS Word and PDF submission.
  • Footnotes: Bluebook 20th Edition citation style.
  • Plagiarism and AI usage: Strictly prohibited; maximum similarity allowed is 10%.
  • Submissions should be anonymous with no identifying information in the manuscript.

Essays will be evaluated based on the originality of content, depth of analysis, relevance to the theme, and clarity of presentation.
