The Department of Law, Assam University, is a leading center for legal scholarship and interdisciplinary research in Northeast India. The three-day National Seminar on “Uniform Civil Code: An Instrument of Uniform Justice” aims to unpack the legal, historical, political, and socio-cultural layers of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) debate. Anchored in Article 44 of the Indian Constitution, the UCC proposes to harmonize personal laws irrespective of religion, thereby promoting equality, dignity, and secular justice.
This seminar provides a vibrant platform for academicians, policymakers, researchers, and law students to deliberate on key legal and constitutional questions surrounding the UCC, with an emphasis on gender justice, religious freedom, and national integration.
