The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) offers valuable internship opportunities for students pursuing graduation, LLB, Masters in relevant fields, and integrated courses like BBALLB, B. Com LLB, BALLB, etc. This programme is designed to provide students with hands-on experience in human rights advocacy and the operations of the NHRC. Here are the detailed guidelines and steps to apply for the NHRC short-term internship:
Eligibility Criteria
- Academic Background: Students pursuing graduation, LLB, Masters, and integrated courses in fields relevant to human rights are eligible to apply.
- Age Limit: Applicants must be under the age of 28 as of 01.07.2024.
- Previous Internships: Students who have previously interned with the NHRC are not eligible to apply again.
Application Process
- Initial Check: If you meet the eligibility criteria and have not previously interned with the NHRC, you can click the “Proceed” button to start the application process.
- Document Preparation: Before proceeding, ensure you have the following scanned documents in PDF format (maximum 2 MB) and a passport-size photo in JPEG format (not exceeding 70 KB):
- Certificate of X class
- Certificate and mark sheet of XII class
- Certificate and mark sheet of Graduation (if completed)
- Mark sheet of the last exam
- I-Card of the currently pursuing course from the present institution
- Recommendation letter from the Principal/Dean/HoD of your current institution
- Verification:
- Enter your mobile number and email ID for verification.
- You will receive an OTP on your mobile for verification. Enter this OTP to proceed.
- Form Filling:
- Fill in the required details on the application page. Fields marked with * are mandatory.
- Enter your educational qualifications starting from the 10th class onwards.
- Clearly mention your current course/degree and the name of your present institution.
- Provide your mobile number and email address.
- Educational Details:
- Fill in your marks of examination passed in percentage (%) only.
- Statement of Purpose:
- Write a Statement of Purpose (SOP) confined to 250 words in the prescribed column.
- Submission:
- After filling in all mandatory fields and uploading the required documents, you can FINAL SUBMIT your application.
- On final submission, an application number will be issued. This number should be referred to for any future reference.
Important Points to Note
- Applications submitted through any other mode will not be entertained.
- If any discrepancy is found in the details provided, such as Marks/CGPA/Percentage, the applicant will be barred from future NHRC programs, and the application will be rejected.

Short-term Internship Programme Details
Besides the regular summer and winter internships, the NHRC offers short-term internship opportunities throughout the year (except May-June and December-January). These internships are available in batches for a period of 15 days and primarily target students from the law stream. During this internship, students will:
- Learn about the functioning of various NHRC divisions.
- Understand the process of complaint handling by the Commission.
- Engage with complainants as part of the internship experience.
