About NLIU Bhopal
The National Law Institute University (NLIU), Bhopal, established in 1997, is among India’s leading legal institutions. Committed to excellence in legal education and research, NLIU has consistently produced top legal professionals.
The Moot Court Association (MCA) of NLIU, established in 2002, organizes mooting and client counseling activities. The Justice R.K. Tankha Memorial International Arbitration Moot is NLIU’s flagship moot court competition, organized annually in partnership with the Office of Mr. Vivek Tankha (Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of India and Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha), in honor of his father, Late Hon’ble Justice R.K. Tankha.
About the 10th NLIU – Justice R.K. Tankha Memorial International Arbitration Moot
The 10th edition of the moot will be held offline at NLIU Bhopal from April 4-6, 2025. The competition consists of two rounds:
- Memorial Qualification Round
- Oral Rounds (for top 40 teams selected from the memorial round)
Participants will engage in a challenging dispute covering international commercial arbitration, investment arbitration, and public international law. This year’s problem is drafted by Mr. Mohit Khubchandani, an experienced international dispute resolution attorney.

Format & Structure
- Memorial Qualification Round: Teams submit memorials, and the top 40 teams qualify for oral rounds.
- Oral Rounds: Conducted offline at NLIU Bhopal, featuring preliminary rounds, semifinals, and finals.
Eligibility
The competition is open to all law students enrolled in a 5-year integrated law course or a 3-year LLB program.
Theme of the Case Record
The problem involves:
- Challenges to the impleadment of a party before an investment tribunal.
- A dismissed arbitration and subsequent commercial arbitration.
- Challenges to arbitrator bias under the newly enacted SIAC Arbitration Rules (January 2025).
- Environmental damages and compensation assessment under international and municipal law.
Registration Fees
- Memorial Qualification Round: ₹3,000 per team (payable upon final registration confirmation).
- Oral Round Qualification: ₹3,000 per team member (includes accommodation and travel, as detailed in the rulebook).
