About National Law University Meghalaya

National Law University Meghalaya (NLU Meg) is the first National Law University in Meghalaya, established to revolutionize legal education and research. Located in the scenic “Scotland of the East,” NLU Meg prioritizes outcome-based learning, evidence-based research, and policy-driven legal studies. The university’s Moot Court Society (MCS) plays a pivotal role in training students for national and international legal advocacy, making NLU Meg a rising hub for legal discourse.

About the Event

The 2nd NLU Meghalaya National Moot Court Competition is a premier advocacy competition designed to refine legal acumen, research skills, and courtroom argumentation. Hosted by the Moot Court Society of NLU Meghalaya, this competition provides participants with a platform to engage in complex legal problem-solving while presenting before esteemed legal professionals. The competition will be held offline and features a challenging moot problem that covers diverse legal dimensions.

Format/Structure

  • Preliminary Rounds – Each team competes in two rounds to qualify.
  • Quarterfinals – The top 8 teams proceed based on performance.
  • Semifinals & Finals – The best teams advance to the final rounds.

Location

  • Offline Event: Hosted at National Law University Meghalaya, Shillong.

Additional Details

  • Eligibility: Open to LL.B. students (3-year and 5-year courses). Each institution can send only one team.
  • Team Composition: 2 speakers + 1 researcher (teams with only 2 members must both be speakers).
  • Registration Fee:
  • ₹7,500 per team (includes accommodation & food).
  • ₹6,000 per team (includes food only).
  • Prizes: Total prize pool of ₹2.25 Lakh, including:
  • Winning Team: ₹1,00,000 + Trophy
  • Runner-up Team: ₹50,000 + Trophy
  • Best Orator (Male & Female): ₹15,000 each
  • Best Memorial (Applicant & Respondent): ₹15,000 each
  • Best Researcher: ₹15,000
