About Part III – Action Research & Resource Centre

Part III – Action Research & Resource Centre is a New Delhi-based organization that operates at the intersection of law, human rights, and social justice. The center is named after Part III of the Indian Constitution, which enshrines the Fundamental Rights of every citizen. Our mission is to collaborate with marginalized and disadvantaged communities in their fight for justice, dignity, and accountability through legal intervention, training, research, and advocacy.

We work closely with survivors of identity-based violence and systemic oppression. By partnering with community-based organizations, we aim to highlight human rights violations and empower the affected communities with the tools they need to seek justice. Part III’s commitment is to reclaim the fundamental rights of marginalized communities, ensure legal accountability, and promote social justice in India.

About the Internship

The Part III Internship Program offers a unique opportunity for students who are passionate about legal systems, human rights, and social justice. We are currently looking for 2-3 dedicated interns to assist with ongoing research projects focused on how the Indian legal system addresses identity-based violence.

The internship is available in both Delhi and Patna offices, and we offer remote or hybrid options for those unable to be physically present. However, for those interning in Patna, preference will be given to candidates available for in-person internships due to the nature of the fieldwork.

During this internship, you will gain hands-on experience in research, advocacy, and legal interventions related to human rights issues. We are committed to providing a dynamic learning environment where interns can engage with real-world legal challenges and make a meaningful impact.

Key Features of the Internship:

  • Duration: Minimum of 1 month (flexible based on academic commitments)
  • Location: New Delhi (office/remote), Patna (in-person/fieldwork)
  • Honorarium: Up to ₹5,000
  • Acknowledgment: You will receive recognition for any academic contributions upon completion of the project.

Roles and Responsibilities

As an intern at Part III, your tasks will vary depending on the project assigned to you. Key responsibilities may include:

  • Conducting legal research on topics related to identity-based violence, human rights violations, and fundamental rights.
  • Drafting and filing Right to Information (RTI) requests, compiling responses from government departments, and organizing this data for future use.
  • Assisting with writing articles for external publications and internal reports.
  • Supporting fieldwork initiatives, particularly for interns based in Patna, by working closely with local communities affected by identity-based violence.
  • Collaborating with supervisors to prepare research materials for ongoing legal cases and advocacy work.

Throughout the internship, you will work under the supervision of experienced legal professionals and researchers. Your contributions will have a direct impact on the research and advocacy projects Part III is pursuing.

Desired Qualifications

This internship is open primarily to students pursuing degrees in law, sociology, governance, and social work. However, students from other disciplines who demonstrate a strong interest in social justice, legal systems, and human rights are also encouraged to apply.

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Strong research and writing skills.
  • Familiarity with legal systems, especially public databases and tools like RTI.
  • Basic understanding of identity-based violence and human rights issues.
  • Knowledge of at least one Indian language (desirable but not mandatory).

Candidates who meet these qualifications and are committed to advocating for marginalized communities are encouraged to apply.

How to Apply

Interested candidates must submit the following documents:

  1. CV/Resume
  2. Statement of Purpose (SoP): A brief explanation of why you want to work with Part III and what you hope to gain from the internship.
  3. Writing Sample: A sample that showcases your research or writing skills.

These documents should be submitted by filling out the application form available at the link below. In case of any technical difficulties, candidates may also reach out to mailprojectpartthree@gmail.com for assistance.

We will review applications on a rolling basis, so candidates are encouraged to apply at least 6-8 weeks in advance of their intended start date. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview.

Application and Selection Process

  • Application Deadline: Ongoing (apply 6-8 weeks in advance)
  • Selection: Shortlisted candidates will be contacted within 15 to 30 days of their application date.
  • Interview: Selected candidates may be invited for an interview as part of the selection process.
  • Confirmation: Successful applicants will be notified by email, and all internship details will be finalized.
