About Project 39A
Inspired by Article 39A of the Indian Constitution, Project 39A is an integral part of NLU Delhi. It endeavors to ensure equal justice and opportunity by addressing socio-economic barriers. Project 39A provides pro bono legal aid to death row prisoners across India, re-evaluating criminal justice practices through empirical research.
About the Project 39A Internship
Embark on a meaningful journey through the Indian criminal justice system with Project 39A's dynamic internship program. Designed to offer valuable exposure, this internship spans from March 2023 to March 2024, providing insight into various facets of law and social justice.
Areas of Work in Project 39A Internship
– Litigation and research on the administration of the death penalty
– Forensic science, focusing on DNA forensics
– Legal aid initiatives in the criminal justice system
– Exploration of mental health issues in relation to criminal justice
– Addressing the issue of torture within the justice system
Eligibility
Open to students enrolled in recognized undergraduate or postgraduate programs in law, humanities, social sciences, management, or media and communications, both in India and abroad. While applicants from other disciplines are welcome, preference will be given to those in the specified fields.
Responsibilities
Interns may engage in litigation support, research endeavors, and public outreach initiatives. Administrative tasks are also integral to the internship experience, providing a comprehensive understanding of Project 39A's operations.
Duration
Internships range from a minimum of 4 weeks to a maximum of 12 weeks, with a preference for full-time engagements. Part-time internships are considered, requiring a commitment of at least 12 weeks.
Location
Interns will be based at the NLU Delhi campus in Sector 14, Dwarka, New Delhi.
Stipend
Interns will receive a stipend of Rs. 10,000/- for every four-week period of full-time internship and Rs. 5,000/- for part-time interns.
