About the Event
NLSIU invites qualified individuals to propose and deliver Elective Courses at the university during the second trimester of the Academic Year 2025–26, scheduled from November 3, 2025, to January 23, 2026.
Elective courses at NLSIU provide students with an opportunity to explore specialized subjects beyond the core curriculum and are designed to encourage deep engagement, research, and application of legal knowledge in contemporary contexts. The courses are open to both academic and industry experts who meet the qualification criteria.

Format and Structure
Each elective course must adhere to the following structure:
- 40 hours of classroom engagement over 10 weeks.
- 2 office hours per week for consultation and student interaction.
- All classes will be held in-person at the NLSIU campus, Bengaluru.
- Classes may be scheduled between 9:00 AM and 7:00 PM, with most electives typically held between 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM, Monday to Friday.
There are three common formats of elective courses at NLSIU:
- Taught Course: Primarily lecture and discussion-based, typically assessed by an exam.
- Research Course: Emphasizes primary and secondary research leading to a term paper.
- Practice/Clinical Course: Focused on practical components like fieldwork, drafting, simulations, or litigation exercises.
Visiting faculty may be supported by an Academic Associate to aid in course delivery, subject to availability and request.

- Venue: National Law School of India University, Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru – 560072.
- Mode: Offline/In-person only.
Additional Highlights
- Travel Reimbursement: One economy-class round-trip domestic airfare will be reimbursed.
- Accommodation: University will arrange initial 10-day stay from the trimester’s start, based on mutual discussion.
- No reimbursement is available for international airfare.
- Course selection is conditional upon approval by the Academic Review Committee (ARC) and sufficient student enrollment.
Eligibility
Candidates must fulfill one of the following criteria:
- A graduate and post-graduate degree in Law or Social Sciences with a minimum 3 years of post-qualification experience.
- OR, 7–10 years of post-qualification legal practice with demonstrable expertise.
- Preference will be given to those with published research, prior teaching experience, or domain specialization.
FAQs
Q1: Can international applicants apply?
A: Yes, but please note that NLSIU reimburses only domestic airfare. International travel costs must be borne by the applicant.
Q2: Will accommodation be provided for the full duration of the course?
A: No. Accommodation is provided only for an initial period of 10 days. Long-term stay must be self-arranged.
Q3: What if my course proposal is approved but student enrollment is low?
A: Courses will only be offered if they are approved by ARC and receive the minimum number of student registrations as per NLSIU’s Academic Regulations.
Q4: Will I receive assistance for conducting the course?
A: Yes. On request and subject to availability, an Academic Associate may be assigned to assist you.
Q5: Can I teach more than one elective in the same trimester?
A: Proposals for multiple courses are accepted but will be considered separately and subject to student demand and academic calendar logistics.
