About DNLU

Dharmashastra National Law University, Jabalpur (DNLU) was established by the MadhyaPradesh National Law University Act 24 of 2018.

The University was unveiled by the noted legal luminaries, leaders, and educationists in 2018 with a vision to be the centre of excellence in legal education and research by disseminating quality education and training; nurturing vibrant legal culture through judicious practices and ethically responsible pursuits.

Vibrant Legal culture is the sine qua non for a developing country like ours. Our vision is to impart and disseminate the knowledge of the law and to promote the culture of research for the development and advancement of legal education. We also aim to impart specialized and systematic instructions and training to the law students, research scholars and officers performing administrative, quasi-administrative functions. The University not only aims tobe a knowledge-driven institution but also a creative and wisdom drove institution.

About the Conference

In recent years, there has been an increasing recognition of the complexities and challenges faced by transgender individuals in society. Despite progressive legal reforms and societal awareness efforts, transgender rights remain a pressing issue in many parts of the world. The Center for Constitutional Law at DNLU is organizing a national conference titled\”Transcending the Binary: Exploring Transgender Rights\” to delve deeper into these issues,analyse existing legal frameworks, and propose solutions for a more inclusive society. The Conference aims to delve into the legal, social, and cultural dimensions surrounding transgender rights in contemporary India. It seeks to provide a platform for critical discourse, analysis, and advocacy on issues pertinent to transgender individuals, their rights,and their lived experiences.

Themes and Sub-Themes

1. Inheritance Rights of the Transgender

Family Dynamics and Acceptance- Investigate how family dynamics and acceptance (or lack thereof) impact transgender individuals\’ ability to inherit assets or property from family members.

Estate Planning and Financial Literacy- Discuss the importance of estate planning andfinancial literacy within the transgender community to ensure inheritance rights areprotected and assets are passed on according to individuals\’ wishes.

2. Intersectionality of Transgender Rights

•Race and Ethnicity: Investigate how race and ethnicity intersect with transgender identity,impacting access to resources, experiences of discrimination, and legal protections.

•Socioeconomic Status: Explore how socioeconomic status influences transgender individuals\’ ability to access healthcare, legal resources, and support networks, and how economic disparities intersect with other forms of marginalization.

•Legal Protections and Discrimination: Discuss how legal protections for transgender individuals vary based on intersecting identities, and explore instances of discrimination within legal systems and institutions.

•Education and Employment: Explore how intersecting identities impact transgender individuals\’ experiences in education and employment settings, including discrimination,harassment, and access to opportunities.

3. Legal Equality and Recognition and Economic Empowerment

•Workplace Diversity and Inclusion: Investigate initiatives within the corporate sector aimed at promoting diversity and inclusion for transgender employees, including policies related to hiring, promotion, and workplace culture. Discuss the economic benefits of creating inclusive work environments and strategies for overcoming barriers to transgender economic empowerment in the workplace.

•Policy Advocacy and Reform: Explore efforts to advocate for legal reforms aimed at promoting equality and recognition for transgender individuals, as well as policy aimed at fostering economic empowerment, such as anti-discrimination laws, gender recognition laws, and economic inclusion initiatives.

4. Trans Joy and Resilience

•Celebrating Identity: Highlight the experiences of joy and celebration within transgender communities, including moments of self-discovery, coming out, and affirming one\’s identity. Explore how expressions of joy contribute to resilience in the face of adversity.

•Self-Care and Healing Practices: Discuss strategies for self-care, resilience-building, and healing within transgender communities, including practices such as mindfulness,meditation, art therapy, and community rituals. Highlight the importance of prioritizing mental and emotional well-being

•Resistance and Activism: Examine acts of resistance, protest, and advocacy with transgender communities as sources of empowerment and resilience. Discuss the role of activism in creating change, fostering solidarity, and reclaiming joy in the face of systemic discrimination and violence.

4. Political Right

•Investigating Representation: Authors are invited to explore the representation of transgender individuals in various political and civic bodies, such as Local Self-Governments, Self Help Groups, and Legislative Assemblies. This investigation aims to examine the relationship between the increasing political representation of transgender people and its subsequent impact on both the transgender community and society at large.

•Impact on Society: The analysis should address how greater political representation of transgender individuals affects key variables such as corruption, expediency, red- tapism,citizen-friendly resolutions, and press freedom. It is essential to consider whether increased political representation of transgender individuals can affect the rate of corruption and whether a greater presence of transgender people in politics can enhance press freedom. Additionally, the broader societal impacts of including more transgender voices in decision-making processes should be examined.

Submission Guidelines:-

LANGUAGE:

All submissions must be made in the English language only

.ABSTRACT:

The abstract should be between 300 and 500 words in length, outlining specific research issues and the planned presentation structure.

It must clearly identify research problem to be explored in the full paper and specify the relevant theme of theconference. Additionally, authors should provide 3-5 keywords.

FULL PAPER

: The final submitted paper should be between 4000 and 6000 words in length and must be submitted in MS Word Document format (.doc/.docx) only.

Formatting specifications for both abstracts and full papers include:Font: Times New Roman

Font Size: 12

Line Spacing: 1.5

Text Alignment: Justified

Paper Size: A4

Margins: 1 inch on all sides

AUTHOR INFORMATION:

Authors must include their name, designation, name of the organization/university/institution, email address, and contact number on the cover page of both the abstract and full paper.

THEMES AND RELEVANCE:

The sub-themes provided are suggestive and not exhaustive. Research papers that are relevant to the conference\’s focus area but do not fall under the specified sub-themes may also be submitted.

CO-AUTHORSHIP:

Co-authorship is permitted with a maximum of one co-author.

FOOTNOTES:

Please use footnotes instead of endnotes, adhering to the Oxford Standard for Citation of Legal Authorities (OSCOLA, 4th edition) for formatting.Footnotes should be single-spaced, in Times New Roman, font size 10, with a 12-point space between separate footnotes.

ORIGINALITY AND PLAGIARISM:

All submissions must be the original work of the contributors and should not have been previously submitted for consideration in any other publication. Plagiarism should not exceed 10%; any plagiarized work will be rejected outright.

REVIEW AND NOTIFICATION:

Authors will be notified of the acceptance or rejection of their abstracts after the review process. Participants whose abstracts are accepted must present a \”functional paper\” at the conference.

PUBLICATION:

Papers presented at the conference will undergo blind peer review for potential publication in an edited book with an ISBN number. Selected papers will be published in an edited book by Bloomsbury Publishing India Pvt. Ltd with an ISBN number.

  • DEADLINES: The deadline for abstract submission is July 20, 2024. The deadline for fe!! paper submission is August 20, 2024.
