Competition Structure:

The Veritas In Judicium competition is divided into several rounds to intensify the level of challenge as participants progress through the stages. Teams will first submit written verdicts, followed by oral rounds where participants will present and defend their verdicts in front of a panel of judges.

  • Preliminary & Quarterfinal Rounds: 12th October 2024
  • Semi-final & Grand Finale Rounds: 13th October 2024

Participants will be tasked with drafting a verdict based on a legal proposition and then defending their verdict through a deliberation process. The competition will evaluate participants on both the quality of their written submissions and their oral presentations.

Formatting Guidelines for Verdicts:

  1. Font: Times New Roman
  2. Font Size: 12 for body text, 10 for footnotes
  3. Line Spacing: 1.5 (main text), 1.0 (footnotes)
  4. Page Layout: A4 size, justified alignment
  5. Citation Style: 21st Edition of Bluebook
  6. Cover Page Details: Competition name, team code, court/tribunal name, case name
  7. Page Limit: Verdicts must not exceed 15 pages, excluding appendices (up to 5 additional pages).

The written submission must include the following sections:

  • Table of Contents
  • Background
  • Issues
  • Summary of the Decision
  • Decision
  • Appendix (if applicable)

Failure to adhere to formatting guidelines may result in a reduction of marks. Plagiarism, fabrication, or dishonesty of any kind will lead to disqualification.

Team Composition and Eligibility:

  • Each team must comprise two members, both serving as participant judges.
  • Cross-institutional teams are permitted, and participants from different universities can form a team.
  • No prior permission is required from respective law schools or societies for registration.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Written submissions must be in English.
  • Each team will be assigned a Team Code. The team code must be used on all submissions and during the oral rounds for identification purposes.
  • Names of participants must not appear on the verdict or any related documents.
  • Multiple opinions in a single verdict are not allowed. Teams must write and submit a unified opinion.
