LDS organizes a wide array of activities, including debates, book clubs, and legal writing competitions, which help in developing communication and advocacy skills. The society aims to create an inclusive space for students, where diverse ideas and perspectives are encouraged and celebrated.
The Veritas In Judicium competition, hosted by the LDS, is a unique and prestigious event that provides law students with the opportunity to experience the complexities of judicial reasoning and decision-making. This competition simulates the role of a judge, requiring participants to craft a well-reasoned verdict and defend it through rigorous deliberation. Participants will be tested on their ability to analyze complex legal issues, present coherent arguments, and structure their opinions within a legal framework under time constraints.
The competition is designed to challenge participants on multiple fronts, evaluating not just their knowledge of the law but also their ability to communicate and justify their decisions in a concise and structured manner. The event is open to law students from across India and beyond, offering a platform to showcase legal drafting skills and judicial reasoning.
The Veritas In Judicium competition is divided into several rounds to intensify the level of challenge as participants progress through the stages. Teams will first submit written verdicts, followed by oral rounds where participants will present and defend their verdicts in front of a panel of judges.
Rounds:
Participants will be tasked with drafting a verdict based on a legal proposition and then defending their verdict through a deliberation process. The competition will evaluate participants on both the quality of their written submissions and their oral presentations.
The written submission must include the following sections:
