CRIL conducts seminars, workshops, and conferences focusing on current international legal issues, fostering intellectual exchange between students, academics, and professionals. The Centre’s most significant contribution to the academic field is its NLIU-CRIL Journal of International Law and Policy, which has earned respect for being a platform that publishes high-quality scholarly work on a variety of international law topics. CRIL strives to create an ecosystem that encourages critical legal thinking and meaningful discourse in international law.

About the 4th Edition of NLIU-CRIL Journal of International Law and Policy:

The NLIU-CRIL Journal of International Law and Policy is a peer-reviewed, student-led academic journal dedicated to advancing knowledge and debate in international law. Now in its fourth edition, the journal seeks to provide a platform for legal scholars, professionals, and students to contribute original and thought-provoking articles. This edition invites submissions that explore contemporary and foundational issues in international law across various domains, including but not limited to international criminal law, trade law, and human rights law.

This year’s journal focuses on several thematic areas, offering an opportunity for contributors to engage with critical and evolving topics within international law. By bringing together diverse viewpoints and rigorous research, the journal seeks to foster a deeper understanding of global legal challenges.

Themes for Submission:

Participants are encouraged to submit papers on a wide range of themes, including but not limited to:

• Public International Law
• Human Rights Law
• Private International Law
• International Trade Law
• International Commercial Law
• International Criminal Law
• International Investment Law

These themes aim to provide a comprehensive platform for scholarly debate on issues that impact global governance, law, and policy. Participants are free to select other relevant topics under the broad umbrella of international law.

Event Dates and Submission Deadlines:

• Submissions Open: October 2024
• Submission Deadline: 15th December 2024
• Review Process: The review process will be conducted between December 2024 and February 2025.
• Publication Date: Accepted papers will be published in the first quarter of 2025.

Submission Categories:

Submissions are invited in the following categories:

• Long Articles: 5000 to 8000 words
• Short Articles: 3000 to 5000 words
• Case Notes/Case Studies: 1500 to 3000 words
• Book Reviews: 1000 to 2000 words

The word limits are exclusive of footnotes, and manuscripts must be original, unpublished works. Submissions must contribute a fresh perspective or analysis on international law issues, aiming to impact both academia and practical legal discourse.

Formatting Guidelines:

All submissions should adhere to the following formatting specifications:

• Font: Times New Roman
• Font Size: 12 for the main text, 10 for footnotes
• Line Spacing: 1.5 for the main text, 1.0 for footnotes
• Margin: 1 inch on all sides
• Citation Style: OSCOLA (4th Edition) must be followed for citations.

Every submission should include:

• Title Page: Title of the paper, name(s) of the author(s), and their institutional affiliation.
• Abstract: A brief summary of the manuscript (250–300 words).
• Keywords: A minimum of five keywords related to the topic of the paper.

Manuscripts that do not meet the formatting guidelines may be rejected without review.

Location:

The NLIU-CRIL Journal of International Law and Policy follows an online mode for both submission and publication. Participants from any location can submit their work without needing to attend any physical event.

Review and Selection Process:

The journal follows a double-blind peer review process:

1. Stage 1: Initial plagiarism check using Turnitin.
2. Stage 2: Two rounds of content review by the Editorial Board.
3. Stage 3: External peer review by international law experts for select papers.

Only manuscripts that pass all stages will be considered for publication. Authors will be informed about the status of their submissions within two months of submission.

Prizes and Recognition:

While the journal does not offer monetary prizes, it provides significant academic recognition:

• Authors of selected papers will have their work published in a widely circulated and respected international law journal.
• Certificates of publication will be awarded to all published authors.
• The best papers may be featured in CRIL’s special issue, which is disseminated to various legal institutions, organizations, and scholars globally.
