About the University: The National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam (NLUJAA), established under the NLU Act, has quickly emerged as a premier institution dedicated to legal education and research. It aims to shape professionals equipped with theoretical and practical knowledge, focusing on promoting interdisciplinary and empirical research on contemporary legal issues. Located in Guwahati, Assam, NLUJAA is renowned for its academic rigor, vibrant learning environment, and its commitment to fostering legal scholarship that addresses pressing socio-legal challenges, particularly in India’s North-East region.


About the DPIIT-IPR Chair: Supported by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Chair at NLUJAA aims to promote intellectual property education and research. The Chair is involved in organizing workshops, awareness programs, and other initiatives that emphasize the importance of intellectual property in fostering innovation and economic growth. Its goal is to raise awareness of intellectual property rights and their impact on diverse industries, thereby fostering an IP-conscious environment in academia and the professional sector. This Call for Papers is one such initiative to provide a platform for academic discussion and to facilitate knowledge-sharing on contemporary IP issues.

About the NLUA Journal of Intellectual Property Rights: The NLUA Journal of Intellectual Property Rights (ISSN: 2583-8121) is an academic, bi-annual, peer-reviewed journal dedicated to publishing insightful research on intellectual property law and related areas. The Journal encourages contributions from legal professionals, academicians, researchers, and students to enhance intellectual discourse and contribute to the growing body of IP literature. It offers an ideal platform for the publication of scholarly articles, research papers, case comments, and book reviews on various facets of intellectual property rights (IPR) including patents, copyrights, trademarks, geographical indications, trade secrets, cyber law, and more. The Journal is designed to foster a cross-jurisdictional dialogue on key IPR issues and to provide fresh perspectives on intellectual property law’s evolving landscape.


Categories for Submission: The NLUA Journal of Intellectual Property Rights welcomes submissions in the following categories:

  1. Research Papers and Articles: 5,000 to 8,000 words. These should present a comprehensive analysis of a topic, with in-depth research and critical insights.
  2. Case Studies/Comments: 3,000 to 4,000 words. Focus on specific cases, court decisions, or policy changes, offering an analytical viewpoint on their implications for intellectual property law.
  3. Book Reviews: Approximately 2,000 words. Summarize and critique books related to IP law or adjacent fields, evaluating their contributions to the legal literature.

Themes for Submission: While there is no strict theme, submissions should cover contemporary issues related to intellectual property rights. Suggested themes include but are not limited to:

  • Constitutional Law and IP
  • Family Law and IP
  • Property Law
  • Criminal Law and IP
  • Artificial Intelligence and Law
  • Business Laws and IP
  • Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in IP cases
  • Intellectual Property Rights
  • Cyber Law
  • Sports Law and IP considerations

Submission Guidelines:

  • Eligibility: Open to law students, academicians, researchers, practitioners, and IP enthusiasts.
  • Format: All submissions should be original and submitted in electronic form via email.
  • Anonymity: The main manuscript should not contain the author’s name or institutional affiliation. A separate cover letter with these details is required.
  • Co-authorship: Up to two authors are allowed for a single submission.
  • File Format: Only MS Word files are accepted.

Formatting Requirements:

  • Font: Times New Roman, size 12 for main text, and size 10 for footnotes.
  • Line Spacing: 1.5 for the main text and 1.0 for footnotes.
  • Abstract and Keywords: Each submission, except book reviews, must include an abstract of up to 250 words along with five keywords.
  • Citation Style: OSCOLA (4th Edition) should be strictly followed.

Important Dates:

  • Last Date for Submission of Full Paper: 30 November 2024
  • Peer Review and Publication: The selected papers will undergo a rigorous double-blind peer review process, and the accepted papers will be published in the upcoming issue (Volume 3, Issue 2) of the NLUA Journal of Intellectual Property Rights.

Publication Policy:

  • Originality: Submissions must be original and not under review or published elsewhere. Plagiarism up to 10% is acceptable.
  • Declaration of Originality: Authors are required to submit a signed declaration of originality along with their work.
  • Editorial Rights: The editors reserve the right to edit or delete content that is offensive, defamatory, unethical, or suggestive of illegal activities.
  • Exclusive Rights: Upon acceptance, authors grant exclusive publishing rights to NLUA Journal of Intellectual Property Rights.
