It conducts extensive research and raises awareness on gender-related issues. Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Raka Arya, the Cell strives to challenge societal stereotypes and address discrimination. Through various seminars, workshops, and events, GJC provides a platform for marginalized voices and works toward practical solutions to gender inequalities.
About the Competition
The NLIU-GJC Essay Writing Competition is a unique initiative by the Gender Justice Cell, aimed at encouraging thoughtful discussions and academic debates on gender-related issues within the legal framework. The competition is structured to facilitate the examination of critical contemporary issues across the themes of gender, law, and justice.
Themes for the Essay: Participants can choose from the following broad themes, which are designed to inspire nuanced and thoughtful discussions:
- New Criminal Laws and Gender Justice
- Labour, Corporate Law, and Gender
- Gender Equality, Media & Artificial Intelligence
- Judiciary, Litigation, Political Institutions, and Gender Justice
- Society, Finance, and Gender Equality
While these themes are indicative, participants are free to explore and contribute essays beyond the given topics, as long as they are relevant to gender and law.
Eligibility
The competition is open to:
- Undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral students
- Academicians, scholars, and researchers
- Legal practitioners, consultants, and policymakers from across the world.
Prizes and Awards
- Winner: A cash prize of INR 10,000, publication of the manuscript in the book of the 4th NLIU National Conference on Gender and Law 2024, and a certificate of merit.
- First Runner-Up: A cash prize of INR 5,000, publication, and a certificate of merit.
- Second Runner-Up: Publication and a certificate of merit.
- Next Top 10 Essays: Certificates of merit.
- All Participants: A certificate of participation will be awarded to all contributors.

- Last Date for Registration: October 5, 2024
- Submission Deadline: October 20, 2024
- Declaration of Results: November 15, 2024
- Publication of Manuscripts: November 2024
Submission and Registration Guidelines
- Submissions must be made in .doc or .docx format only.
- The essays should be between 3,000 to 6,500 words, excluding footnotes and abstract.
- An abstract of 200-250 words must be included at the top of the essay.
- All manuscripts must be original, with a plagiarism limit of no more than 7%.
- Registration Fees:
- Single Authorship: INR 400
- Co-Authorship: INR 600
