About NLIU and Gender Justice Cell (GJC):

About the Event:
The NLIU-GJC Essay Writing Competition 2024, in collaboration with the office of Advocate Prerna Priyadarshini (Supreme Court of India), is a prestigious platform for young minds to explore, analyze, and contribute to the ongoing debates around gender justice. Participants are encouraged to critically examine modern gender-related issues in various sectors like criminal law, corporate governance, media, and political institutions.
The competition seeks to provide participants with an opportunity to engage with complex gender justice topics, sharpen their analytical skills, and offer well-reasoned solutions or arguments through their essays. Winning essays will not only receive recognition but also a chance for publication, adding valuable weight to participants’ academic and professional profiles.
Event Themes:
Participants can submit essays based on one of the five themes listed below. Each theme offers a wide scope for discussion and analysis, catering to a diverse range of interests:
- New Criminal Laws and Gender Justice
- Labour, Corporate Law, and Gender
- Gender Equality, Media & Artificial Intelligence
- Judiciary, Litigation, Political Institutions, and Gender Justice
- Society, Finance, and Gender Equality
Participants are free to interpret the themes and their sub-themes to address current legal frameworks, policy reforms, and societal changes through the lens of gender justice.
Timeline:
- Last Date of Registration: October 5, 2024
- Last Date for Essay Submission: October 20, 2024
- Declaration of Results: November 15, 2024
Prizes and Awards:
The competition comes with exciting rewards, including both monetary prizes and recognition through publication. The winners will also get certificates of merit, with a promise of publication in NLIU’s conference book for the top entries. Here are the details of the prizes:
- Winner: Cash Prize of INR 10,000 + Publication in the Book on the 4th NLIU National Conference on Gender and Law + Certificate of Merit.
- 1st Runner-Up: Cash Prize of INR 5,000 + Publication in the Conference Book + Certificate of Merit.
- 2nd Runner-Up: Publication in the Conference Book + Certificate of Merit.
- Next Top 10 Authors: Certificate of Merit.
- All Participants: Certificate of Participation for every participant.
Submission Guidelines:
- The essay should range between 3,000 to 6,500 words (excluding footnotes).
- Each entry must be original, unpublished, and should adhere to the formatting rules laid out in the competition’s guidelines.
- The submission should be accompanied by an abstract of 200-250 words summarizing the core arguments of the essay.
- Essays should be submitted in Word format through a Google form provided in the event brochure.
Participants will need to comply with a stringent plagiarism policy. Any essay found in violation will be disqualified.

The competition is online—meaning students, professionals, and legal enthusiasts from all over the country (and even globally) are invited to participate, eliminating barriers to entry.
