About the Centre for Child Rights, NLU Odisha

The Centre for Child Rights (CCR) at National Law University Odisha (NLUO), established in April 2015, is a pioneering action-research center dedicated to advancing the cause of child rights. Inaugurated by Hon’ble Justice Dipak Misra, former Chief Justice of India, the CCR promotes legal and policy reforms, enhances access to justice for children, and drives community engagement on issues impacting child welfare.

Under the guidance of Prof. Ved Kumari, NLUO’s Vice Chancellor and one of the foremost advocates for child rights, CCR hosts India’s only dedicated Chair Professorship on Child Rights. Supported by a multidisciplinary team, the Centre actively pursues integrated policy advocacy, research, and educational initiatives to ensure a comprehensive approach to safeguarding child rights.

About the Journal

The Journal on the Rights of the Child is CCR’s flagship publication. Re-launched as a biannual issue in April 2025, the Journal is dedicated to providing a platform for scholarly exploration of issues surrounding child rights, juvenile justice, and the socio-legal aspects of child welfare. It invites thought-provoking submissions that analyze current legal frameworks, legislative developments, and societal perspectives on child protection.

The Journal also explores innovative angles, such as media portrayal of child rights, pop-culture reviews, and photo essays, ensuring an inclusive, interdisciplinary approach to child rights scholarship.

Call for Submissions

The Journal invites contributions in the following categories:

1. Original Papers (4000-6000 words): Comprehensive research articles exploring legal landscapes, case law, or data-driven insights into child rights.
2. Case Commentaries (1500-2000 words): Analytical reviews of recent judgments or legislative changes impacting child welfare.
3. Notes and Comments (1500-2000 words): Short articles addressing legal challenges, implementation reviews, or policy critiques.
4. Book Reviews (1200-1500 words): Critical assessments of books on child rights and related topics.
5. Infographic Fact Sheets: Visual presentations of data on child welfare indicators.
6. Juvenile Justice Summaries (3000-4000 words): Overview and commentary on recent developments in juvenile justice.
7. Pop-Culture Commentary (1200-1500 words): Reviews of films, web series, or other media content from a child rights perspective.
8. Media Analysis (2000-2500 words): Insights into trends in journalism and media coverage of child rights issues.

Submission Themes

Topics may include, but are not limited to:

• Trends in juvenile justice and child welfare legislation.
• Budget allocations and their impact on child welfare.
• Analysis of media representation of children’s rights.
• Reviews of education, nutrition, or healthcare programs for children.
• Rights of teenagers and challenges in the digital age.

Submission Guidelines

• Submissions must be original and unpublished. Authors must include a Turnitin plagiarism report.
• Formats accepted: .doc/.docx.
• Font: Times New Roman, size 12, line spacing 1.
• Include an abstract of 150-300 words and a short author bio of 50-75 words.
• Citations must follow the APA style.

Submissions are to be emailed to ccr@nluo.ac.in with the subject line “Submission for CCR – NLUO Journal”.

Event Dates and Review Process

• Submission Deadline: 15th January 2025
• Rolling Review: Submissions are reviewed on a rolling basis, and decisions will be communicated within four weeks.
• Authors must make changes as suggested by the editorial team. Accepted pieces cannot be published elsewhere.
