About the National Essay Writing Competition

CCAL’s First Edition of the National Essay Writing Competition invites students to explore the important theme: “Originalism v. Living Constitutionalism: Judiciary’s Power in Post Maneka Gandhi Period.” This theme is a critical area of study within constitutional law, delving into the contrasting philosophies of interpreting the Constitution based on its original meaning (Originalism) versus an evolving, adaptable document (Living Constitutionalism). These perspectives represent significant dimensions in how judicial power and legal interpretation influence contemporary democracy.

Participants are encouraged to present nuanced analyses and well-reasoned arguments, reflecting their understanding of constitutional principles and interpretation. With sub-themes like Social Transformation through Living Constitutionalism in India, Balancing Judicial Activism and Restraint in Constitutional Interpretation, Constitutional Morality in Modern Democracy, Economic Rights and State Power, and The Future of Constitutional Interpretation in India, the competition offers a platform for students to showcase their research, analytical skills, and contributions to the evolving field of constitutional law.
