About the Prison Advocacy Project

The Prison Advocacy Project is a transformative initiative funded by the Azim Premji Foundation. Focused on systemic reform, the project addresses pressing issues within the incarceration system, including prisoner rights, legal aid for undertrial prisoners, and rehabilitation strategies. The project is envisioned to improve access to justice, promote prisoner welfare, and develop sustainable frameworks for advocacy and reform.

This initiative aims to bring together legal and social work professionals to collaborate on research, advocacy, and practical interventions. With the goal of bridging gaps between the legal system and marginalized communities, the project aligns with NLUO’s broader mission of fostering meaningful societal impact.


Available Positions and Details

  1. Project Manager
    • Role: Leading the project, overseeing day-to-day operations, coordinating between stakeholders, and ensuring timely execution of deliverables.
    • Eligibility: Strong managerial and legal background with relevant work experience in advocacy or social justice projects.
  2. Project Fellows (Legal and Social Work)
    • Role:
      • Legal Fellows: Conducting legal research, drafting legal documents, and representing clients in courts or tribunals.
      • Social Work Fellows: Engaging with prison populations, conducting socio-legal analysis, and creating rehabilitation strategies.
    • Eligibility: Professionals or fresh graduates in law, social work, or allied disciplines passionate about prison reform.
  3. Office Manager
    • Role: Managing administrative tasks, maintaining project documentation, and ensuring the smooth functioning of the office.
    • Eligibility: Background in office administration or relevant experience managing social or legal projects.

Contractual Details:

  • Duration: 3 years
  • Annual Increment: 10% on consolidated remuneration
  • Mode: Hybrid (combination of on-site and remote work)
